I think this book is very interesting and hilarious. The book is about a pigeon that doesn't want to take a bath. The flies stat following him, but then they left because they thought that he smelt bad. My favorite part of the book was when the flies started following him and then they flew away. I recommend this book to anyone who likes picture books and likes drawings. ~Review by KEM

Treasury of Greek Mythology by Donna Jo Napoli

This book holds many epic stories of gods and goddesses, titans and monsters!! These stories start with Geae (Mother Earth ) and ending with the story of Helen (the lethal  beauty). My personal favorite part of the book the story of Hermes, but guess what? I'm not telling why! (hee hee) I think this book is great for people who are interested in Greek Mythology. ~Review by WS

This book is extraordinary.  It holds secrets you never knew, a new world only unexplored by you, stories so real you  are inside along with others who have read before you. My favorite part of the book is the part when they talk about Poseidon the god of the sea and earthquakes. This book contains facts about Gaia, Uranus, Cronus, Zeus and more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Greek Mythology and bad pictures.   ~Review by SC

Tree of Cranes by Allen Say

This book will blow you away because of it’s drawings. To summarize the book, it is about a boy who has never had a Christmas. One day, the boy got sick. When he was in bed, his mom got him a baby tree. They got a lot of cranes and candles. The boy made a wish for a samurai kite. My favorite part of the book was when they decorated the tree. Just because it looked so astonishing. I recommend this book to young kids who like reading simple books. ~ Review by LS

Under the Quilt of Night by Deborah Hopkinson

This is one of my favorite poem books. Under the Quilt of the Night is a picture book written in poem format. A conductor is running with a group of slaves through water, woods, and finally, a house. They stay there for one night but have to keep running because the slave owners have found the house while searching for the missing slaves. My favorite part is when the group of slaves reach a house of runaways and they use the patterns on the quilt to let people know they hide runaways. I would recommend this book to people who like reading about history, equality, and good endings.   ~Review by DH

Bubba & Beau Meet the Relatives by Kathi Appelt

This book is a great book. The family learns that the relatives are coming. They started to clean around the house the house then they started cook. When it was time to clean up they swipe trash under the bed and they put anything in the closet and in the dresser. I think they had a great day. The dog and Bubba got in the mud so dad came to get them and made them take a bath. Then family came over. The ending was my favorite part because they got to go in the back of the truck with water and they were talking. And well the story is mostly about Bubba and Beau but it is so great. You should read it. I know you will enjoy it. It might well be your favorite book. I like it. Hope you like it.  ~Review by DJ

I think this is a great book because it is funny and talks about a cat. Bandit's owners were moving. Bandit was wondering why they were moving boxes. Then Bandit runs away from the new house. My favorite part  is when Bandit ran away from his new house. If you're like me who loves cats I totally recommend this book to you because Bandit is a cat. ~Review by ISB

The book Bad Kitty helps you learn your ABCs.  Bad Kitty is about a kitty that turns from being a good kitty to a bad kitty because the owners ran out of kitty food. My favorite part of the book is when the owner didn’t have kitty/cat food and the cat wasn’t happy. I recommend this book to anyone who likes cats and I also recommend this book to people whose cat started to be mean when you were out of food.   ~Review by DG

The Rock Maiden by Natasha Yim

I am also reviewing The Rock Maiden: A Chinese Tale of Love to celebrate Multicultural Children’s Book Day. This is a retelling of an old Chinese legend surrounding the Amah rock in Hong Kong.  Ling Yee is a beautiful young woman who falls in love with the fisherman Ching Yin.  Eventually they are married and have a young son. When Ching Yen’s boat disappears after a storm, Ling Yee waits at the top of the cliff everyday waiting for his ship to return.  Tin Hau, the Goddess of the Heavens is touched by Ling Yee’s devotion and turns her into stone.  Does Chin Yee ever return?  The author’s note gives more information on this unique land formation that is the inspiration from the tale.  I really enjoyed this story.  I love discovering new legends and folk tales and this one does not disappoint. The soft illustrations really convey the beauty and wistfulness of the tale.

The Nian Monster by Andrea Chang

Happy Multicultural Children’s Book Day!  To celebrate, I am reviewing The Nian Monster by Andrea Chang. I really loved this story!  In Shanghai, three days before the New Year, Xingling learns about the Nian monster that would attack villages on New Year’s Day thousands of years ago.  When the villagers learned of his three weaknesses: the color red, fire, and loud noises, they become the traditions that are used to keep the Nian monster away.  Unfortunately, Nian is no longer afraid of any of those things and has come to eat Xingling and destroy Shanghai.  However, Xingling is a clever little girl and she has a plan to save herself and the city from Nian.  The illustrations in the book are beautiful. If you are wanting to know more about Chinese New Year, this is a great book for you.  I enjoyed reading about the legend of the Nian monster and learning about different places in Shanghai.  A glossary of Chinese words is included in the back.  I thought this story was very cute and is an excellent read-aloud.

This book is really awesome!!! A young girl, Minli is tired of life in a poor neighborhood. Her dad reads her stories every night. Minli’s favorite story is about the Old Man Of The Moon. He can grant somebody any wish. One night Minli sneaks off to the Old Man Of The Moon. She wants to ask for a better fortune. Is the Old Man Of The Moon real? And will Minli make it there? I recommend this book for ages 6+. I rate this book a 5 star book because of the delightful  illustrations and incredible storyline. ~Review by IP
